Safety is a condition, not an extra
Cleaning windows at height is one of the occupations with the highest rate of fall accidents. So for us safety is not an appendix to the job — it is what decides whether the job happens at all, and by what method.
Trained operatives certified for work at height
Everyone who carries out work at height for us has completed training and certification for work at height in accordance with the Work at Height Safety Regulations, and holds a valid certificate. That certification is not a one-off — it requires periodic refresher training, and we keep it current.
Beyond the certificate there is experience, and that matters just as much. Working on a glass facade, above a busy pavement or between balconies demands judgement that is only acquired on site: knowing when the wind is too strong, when an anchor point cannot be trusted, and when it is simply better to postpone the job to another day.
The safest method first
Before anyone puts on a harness we ask whether we can avoid going up at all. On most jobs the answer is yes: a telescopic pole system with purified water lets us reach the windows from the ground, with the operative standing on two stable feet. No ladder, no scaffolding and no fall risk.
When there is no alternative and height is required, it is done with the right equipment, by the right method, and by someone certified to do it.
When we say no
There are jobs we turn down. If there is no compliant anchor point, if the access is not safe, or if the weather is not suitable — we say so up front rather than trying anyway. A customer disappointed for a week is always better than an accident.
What we insist on
- Valid certification — every operative working at height is certified for it, with periodic refresher training. You are welcome to ask to see the certificates.
- Equipment checked before every job — harnesses, ropes, connectors and poles are life-saving equipment. They are inspected before use and replaced on schedule, not on how they look.
- Securing the work area — we mark off the strip below the facade so that nobody walks under the equipment or under an operative.
- No improvised ladders — an iron rule here. We work from the ground where we can, and with certified equipment where height is needed.
- Stopping in unsuitable conditions — strong wind, a questionable anchor or blocked access stops the job. Without hesitation.
- Non-toxic products — safe for children, pets and the planting below the window.
